MORE Halloween Suit Costumes
Halloween is a fantastic opportunity to get creative with your wardrobe, and if you have a suit on hand, you’re already halfway to a stylish costume!
Classy & versatile.
You can create a range of characters with minimal effort. For a party or a casual gathering, a suit can keep you looking good!
Miami Vice on my mind:
You can easily embody iconic figures like a popular TV detective. Miami-Vice it up! This is great if you’re short on time or creativity, simply wearing your suit with a pastel T-shirt can suffice. Easy and a good conversation starter!
With a bit more effort you could distress your suit a little with fake blood or rips (if you dare), and apply some light makeup for a zombie effect. It’s a flip on Miami with a classic horror theme.
Magical Transforming Suit Trick:
Transform your black suit look or fancy tuxedo into something magical. Consider adding a top hat and a kerchief up your sleeve to give your suit a sophisticated Halloween twist. Add white gloves and you’re on your way.
You can also add a vampire twist. Use a black cape and maybe some fake fangs. You’re a vampire who means business!
Yes Sir! You look great!
Start with a navy blue or black and add gold or silver embellishments, such as epaulets, insignia, and gold or brass buttons. Add a crisp white dress shirt and a navy or black tie to complement the look.
Find a naval-style cap, preferably one with gold trim and an emblem to enhance the authenticity. Add some fake medals or ribbons to your jacket to mimic the look of a decorated admiral. Finally wear polished black shoes to maintain a formal appearance.
Final Touches
- Create a rugged or weathered look, as if you’ve been at sea.
- Carry a toy telescope or dark sunglasses to enhance your admiral persona.
Using a suit for your Halloween costume is a smart choice that combines elegance with creativity. With just a few tweaks and accessories, you can create a memorable look that fits the spirit of the day!
LOOKING BACK ON 2023 IDEAS
Every year it’s a creative scramble to find the costume that shows some effort without having to rent an entire mascot outfit.
If you’re going to dress up, of course you can count on Tom’s Place. We had some great Halloween Suit suggestions a while ago and now we’ve add a few more!
#1: Just Ken
Some of the outfits from the movie are pretty crazy, but ‘Just Ken’ sports a black T-shirt, black dress pants and black shoes. Platinum blonde hair helps for authentic Ken. Throw in a black patterned bandana to help the look.
Just don’t forget the pink socks.
Pull it off on-your-own, or if you’re going with friends, this works for everyone! Be polite and keep making that heart with your hands to complete the illusion of blond fragility.
#2: Joey Tribbiani
Always funny, Friends gives us a good idea on S3.E2 The One Where No One’s Ready. What you’ll need is… well… everything.
Get all your shirts and all your ties and maybe borrow some extra. The bonus is that you might not even need a coat to go out. Could you be any more ready?
#3: Ted Lasso
The hit series Ted Lasso gives us its title character for a great costume idea. A navy V-neck pullover with a white button-down shirt underneath. Make or use a dollar-store-find very thick moustache, slick back your hair (or maybe a visor?) and you’re good to go. Extra points for making an AFC Richmond crest for your sweater. That’d be a recognizable clincher.
#4 – Justin Trudeau
We mentioned the Donald (#5 below), so how about the Justin? Impeccably dressed with impeccable hair. Or in keeping with political costumes, Joe Biden is a good candidate. Check out the 3-pointed pocket square!
(PREVIOUS SUGGESTIONS:)
#1: A Wedding Singer
This costume is based on the 1998 comedy titled “The Wedding Singer” with funny man Adam Sandler. If you’ve ever had big dreams of being a rock star, but had to settle for small gigs in reception halls, this is the costume for you.
For extra authenticity, make sure you carry a mic and repeatedly say “Well, I have a microphone and you don’t. So you will listen to every damn word I have to say!”
#2: Superman – Man Of Steel
Doesn’t every man wish they had abs of steel? This costume is a great combination of silly/superhero and it’s super easy to pull off!
All you need is either a superman t-shirt or the top half of a costume to wear underneath a plain white dress shirt. Make sure the top 3 or 4 buttons of your shirt are unbuttoned beneath the tie to reveal your “alter ego”. Finish off the look with a pinstripe or dark coloured suit along with a solid, dark coloured tie, casually slung over the shoulder.
#3: Zombie
If you’re one of the 10 million who have followed the Walking Dead TV show for the past 7 seasons, you know that this zombie genre has taken on a life of it’s own and refuses to die.
To get this look, you have to be willing to sacrifice some of your older clothing, or perhaps buy some really cheap items at the second hand store. Either way, get ready to beat up, stain, burn and destroy!
#4: Don Draper (Mad Men)
Would you rather your costume be simple yet significant? Grab one of your slim fitted suits, a thin retro tie, and white dress shirt and go for the Man Men look. The hair should be clean cut and slicked back with a side part. A vest could also be a great compliment to this look and don’t forget the white pocket square.
For extra authenticity, be sure to have a cigarette and Old Fashioned cocktail in hand at all times.
#5: The Donald
Whether you like him or hate him, you have to admit that Donald Trump is one of the most highly recognizable characters out there.
The look is fairly easy to accomplish: Dark suit, white dress shirt and red tie to start. But, the costume would not be complete without the trademark blonde wig, which can be found and purchased at most party stores or online.
For extra authenticity, say something offensive every 5-7 minutes.
#6: 1920’s Gangster
Back in the 1920s, men’s fashion was roaring. And the deadly gangsters and hit men of that time were wearing 3 piece suits, baggy enough to hide their weapons.
Be sure not to forget important details like suspenders, caps and big daddy cigars.
For extra authenticity, find some foam blocks, paint them grey and attach to your feet aka “swimming with the fishes”.
#7: 70’s Detective
Whether or not you decide to play the sleazy detective or no- nonsense cop in plain clothes, you can have a lot of fun with the 70s detective genre.
For extra authenticity, get creative with the facial hair. If you’re not one of those lucky gents who gets the 5 o’clock shadow by noon, there are many options out there for fake side burns and/or moustaches.
